What Is Vitamin E?
Vitamin E is an oil-soluble antioxidant vitamin. On ingredient lists it often appears as Tocopherol or Tocopheryl Acetate. Some plant oils, such as wheat germ oil, are naturally rich in it.
What It Does in Skin and Hair Care
In skincare, vitamin E is used to nourish and soften skin and to help protect the oils in a product from going off.
How to Use Products With It
- Use vitamin E lotions and creams once or twice a day, after washing.
- In winter, apply on slightly damp skin for a softer feel.
Tips and Cautions
- Patch test first: put a little on the inside of your arm for a day or two before using it on your face or body.
- If your skin stays red, itchy or sore, stop using the product and see a doctor.
Questions
- What is tocopheryl acetate?
- It is a form of vitamin E commonly used in cosmetics because it keeps well.
- Is vitamin E oil the same as a vitamin E lotion?
- No. A lotion contains a small amount of vitamin E with other moisturisers. Pure oils are much stronger and can feel heavy.
