Why daily sun protection matters in Pakistan, and how to start
By Team Cosmevo · 9 October 2026 · 5 min read

Daily sun protection matters in Pakistan because the sun is strong for much of the year, and you are exposed on short, ordinary trips: the walk to the bus, the school run, the market, the rooftop. The easiest way to make it a habit is to tie it to something you already do every morning, such as washing your face. Cover up, find shade at midday, and use a sunscreen made for the purpose, applied generously and again through the day.
This guide gives simple habits you can start this week. It makes no promises about results, because sun care is about steady habits, not one product.
Why it is more than a beach thing
Many people think sun care is only for holidays. But skin is exposed to daylight on cloudy days, in the car next to a window, and on short walks. Over the years, those small amounts add up. Dull skin, uneven tone and dark patches are things many people notice after long, unprotected hours outside.
Pakistan has bright sun for most of the year. In summer, the sun is high and the heat is hard. In winter, the sun feels gentle, so people forget. Winter sun is still sun.
If you have a medical skin condition, or take medicine that makes your skin sensitive to light, ask your doctor what is right for you.
Habit 1: Plan around the strongest hours
The sun is usually strongest in the middle of the day, roughly late morning to mid-afternoon. If you can, move errands outside those hours. Walk on the shady side of the road. Wait for the bus under a tree or a shelter, not in the open.
You do not need to stay home. Small choices add up.
Habit 2: Cover up
Covering up is the oldest and simplest method, and it costs nothing extra.
- Dupatta or scarf. Wear it loose over the head and neck, or wrap the neck. A light cotton one is cooler than you think.
- Hat or cap. A wide brim shades the face and ears. Choose a breathable one for the heat.
- Sunglasses. They help your eyes feel comfortable in glare. Pick a pair that covers well.
- Long, light sleeves. Loose cotton shalwar kameez works well for most men and women.
- An umbrella. Many people use one in the rain only, but it is a good sun shade too.
Habit 3: Use a sunscreen, and use enough
A sunscreen is a product made for the job. Read the label of the one you choose and follow its directions. A few tips most people forget:
- Use enough. A thin smear does very little. For the face and neck, many people use about two finger-lengths of cream.
- Apply it before you leave home. Give it a few minutes to settle, then dress.
- Do not forget the neck, ears, hands and the back of the hands. Also the part line, if your scalp shows.
- Reapply through the day. If you are outside for long, reapply every couple of hours, and after heavy sweating or wiping your face. Follow the label.
- Use it on cloudy days. Cloud does not stop all light.
- Use it in winter too. Make it part of your face routine all year, not a summer job.
Do not count a moisturiser as your sunscreen step. Choose a sunscreen made for the purpose and follow its label.
Habit 4: Build it into your day
A good habit is one you do not have to think about. Link it to your face wash.
Morning, in order:
- Wash your face with a gentle face wash.
- Pat dry.
- Moisturise with a light lotion.
- Apply your sunscreen, generously.
- Dress, then dupatta, hat or sunglasses on the way out.
Keep a small tube in your bag so reapplying is easy. Put a note on your phone or keep the tube beside your toothbrush.
Night:
- Wash off the day's sunscreen, sweat and dust. Wash gently, 10 to 20 seconds.
- Moisturise.
Where Cosmevo products fit in a daily routine
Sun care is only one part of a routine. Your skin also needs cleansing and moisture. Here is how some of our products fit, without any promises about sun care.
Giga White Creamy Facewash is a creamy face wash for all skin types, used in the morning and evening. The box lists niacinamide, licorice extract and glycerin among its ingredients. It is part of our brightening routine. You can read about niacinamide on its ingredient page.
Hydro Med Moisturizing Lotion with SPF40 is a light, oil-free moisturising lotion for dry skin, for the face, neck and hands. The box lists vitamin E, niacinamide, shea butter, ceramides and hyaluronic acid. See the page on vitamin E. We make no sun-protection claims here. Use a sunscreen for that step, and use this lotion as a moisturiser if it suits your skin.
You can also see the whole daily cleansing group on our site. A cleanser you enjoy using twice a day is the base for everything else.
Common questions people have
Will sunscreen make my oily face greasier? Some feel heavy on oily skin and some do not. Try a light, gel or fluid texture, and wash your face well at night.
My skin is brown. Do I need sunscreen? Yes. Every skin tone can be affected by sun, including darkening, uneven tone and dryness. It looks different on different tones, but it is not limited to fair skin.
Is a hat enough on its own? A hat is great for the face and ears. The neck, arms and hands still need cover or sunscreen.
What if I forget one day? Just carry on the next day. A habit is built over weeks.
When to see a doctor
See a doctor if you notice a spot or mole that changes in size, shape or colour, bleeds, or does not go away. Also see one for painful sunburn with blisters, sudden dark patches, or any skin problem that is severe or lasts. These need a proper check, not a cosmetic product.
In short
Look for shade at midday, cover up with a dupatta, hat and sunglasses, use a sunscreen generously and reapply, and do it on cloudy days too. Link it to your morning face wash, and it becomes automatic. For a wider routine, see our brightening skincare guide for beginners.

- How often should I reapply?
