A beginner's guide to brightening skincare
By Team Cosmevo · 9 October 2026 · 5 min read

Brightening skincare means a steady routine that helps skin look brighter and more even in tone. For a beginner, that means four habits: cleanse gently twice a day, use a product with brightening ingredients, moisturise, and protect your skin from the sun. Results build slowly over weeks, so keep the routine simple and be patient.
What brightening really means
Dust, sun, heat and tiredness can leave skin looking dull. Dead skin and oil sit on the surface and make the face look flat and tired. Brightening skincare is about helping skin look fresher, with a more even-looking tone and a radiant look.
It is not about changing the colour you were born with. No product should promise that, and you should be careful of any that do. Your natural skin tone is yours. The goal is skin that looks clean, smooth and lively.
Start with a gentle cleanse
The base of any brightening routine is a clean face. If dirt and oil are left on the skin, no other product can do its job well.
Giga White Creamy Facewash is a creamy face wash. The box says to apply it in the morning and evening to a slightly damp face, with circular movements, and to lather it gently for 10 to 20 seconds. Then rinse with warm water and dry your face gently.
The ingredient list on the box includes niacinamide, kojic acid, licorice extract and emblica extract. These are common ingredients in products made for brighter-looking skin.
Do not scrub hard. Rough scrubbing can leave skin red and sore, and it does not make skin look brighter.
Know the common brightening ingredients
You will see these names on many boxes. Here is what they are, in simple words.
- Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3. It is often used in skincare for a more even-looking tone. Read more on the niacinamide page.
- Kojic acid is an ingredient used in products made for brighter-looking skin. Read more on the kojic acid page.
- Licorice extract is a plant extract often added to products for a brighter-looking, more even-looking tone.
- Vitamin C is also often used in brightening products for a radiant look.
You do not need all of them at once. One steady routine is better than five different products used for a week each.
Use a cleansing bar for the body
Brightening care is not only for the face. If you want the same gentle care on your face and body, a cleansing bar can be part of your routine.
Giga White Plus Soap lists glutathione, kojic acid dipalmitate, vitamin C, licorice extract, aloe vera extract and glycerin on the box. The box says to wash your skin, apply the soap, wait for 1 minute and then rinse thoroughly. It says to use it 2 times a day.
Giga White Soap lists glutathione and glycerin on the box. Its box says to wait for 2 minutes before you rinse thoroughly, and to use it 2 to 3 times a day.
Pick one soap. You do not need to use both on the same day. Choose by how your skin feels. If your skin feels dry after washing, rinse well, pat dry and moisturise.
A beginner's routine
Morning
- Wash your face with a gentle face wash and rinse well.
- Pat dry and apply a light moisturiser.
- Use sun protection every day. It matters more than any other step in this list.
Evening
- Wash your face again to clear dust and sweat from the day.
- Moisturise.
- Go to bed with a clean pillowcase. Change it often in hot weather.
In the shower
- Use a cleansing bar on your body and rinse well.
- Moisturise your skin while it is still damp.
Sun habits matter
If you do one thing for brighter-looking skin, do this: protect your skin from the sun. Strong sun is part of daily life in Pakistan, and it can leave skin looking uneven and dull. If you skip sun care, your other steps will have less effect.
- Use a sunscreen every morning, and put more on if you spend the day outside.
- Wear a hat or use a dupatta or an umbrella when you go out at midday.
- Stay in the shade when you can.

Be patient
Skin takes time. Many people look for a change in a few days and then switch products, which keeps the skin confused. Give a routine at least a few weeks before you decide. Take a photo in the same light once a week, so you can see small changes.
No product can promise a result. Results build slowly, and they vary from person to person. A routine you can keep up every day is worth more than a strong product you stop using after a week.
Patch test first
Always do a patch test before you start a new product.
- Wash a small area of skin, such as the inside of your forearm or behind your ear.
- Apply a little of the product.
- Wait 24 hours.
- If you see redness, itching or irritation, do not use the product on your face.
Keep these products away from your eyes. The boxes say to flush with water if the product gets into the eyes. If irritation occurs, stop using it and speak to your doctor.
When to see a doctor
If you have dark patches that are spreading, changing or painful, or skin that is persistently red or irritated, please see a doctor. Brightening products are for everyday skin care, not for skin problems that need a doctor.
Where to look next
See all products for this concern on the brightening page, or browse the face care range. If you want to understand what is on the box, read how to read a cosmetic ingredient list.
In short
For brighter-looking skin, cleanse gently, moisturise, protect your skin from the sun and be patient. Use one routine for a few weeks, patch test first, and see a doctor if your skin is painful or does not settle.
